• The best book on selling that I’ve read in ten years. And I read all of them. Get ready for the ride of your life, this book debunks all of the so call “axioms” about selling that you have heard over the course of your career. In this book the author “Keenan” (don’t ask I didn’t) Handles all of that sticky stuff that slows down, nay, just about kills your sales effort.
  Here are some of the more cogent examples from the book
  • The customer does not care about you. The customer does not care about your company, or how long it has been in business, or how it started. The customer only cares about one thing, and that is, what can you do for her?
  • The sales person is dead You are a consultant, an advisor, an expert, someone who is a peer, someone, the customer comes to rely on for valuable solutions.
  • Customers don’t buy from friends Or drinking buddies, or golf partners. Customers, buy from someone who can bring them value…yes, even if they don’t actually like that person.
  • Customers do like change. Heck, they will embrace change, if you can prove to them that it will make their product, and their company better.
  • Show them the future Customers will change, when the future you show them is better than the present, they told you they liked.
  • Customers will return your phone calls and answer your emails If they are provocative enough. If the messages surprise them and if they are intrigued. You don’t like to answer boring sales calls, why should your customer?
  And there is so much more. The author shows you how to move the customer off the dime when he is stalling. Or, how to get her to talk and into telling you what they need, by asking her a series of questions that will drive her to let you solve the problems for them.
  I started sending this book out to some of my sales training clients, even before I finished it tonight. Please, if you are the kind of person who never reads a book on sales, start today with this one. Or, if you are the kind of person who is reading sales books all the time, grab this one next. Heck, stop reading the one in your hand right now and pick this one up. I guarantee it is better than the one you’re reading now.

• Keenan has written a timeless classic that will help any salesperson who's stuck in mediocrity or who's looking to sharpen the saw with the latest thinking in terms of sales best practices. This book was recommended to me by a recognized sales leader and Linkedin colleague. So, I'm not a fan or a client of Keenan's. Well, I'm so glad I purchased this book. I finished it 3 days.
  
  Gap Selling provides a fresh framework and approach to hitting and exceeding your number. Some of the topics it covers include Knowing the Game, How to Play, Gap Prospecting and Building a Gap-selling team. Keenan dispels some commonly held beliefs and practices in terms of sales that are holding people back from reaching their potential.
  
  What I really appreciated about this book was it's brutal honesty, its deep insights, and the fact that it was well-written. Some salesbooks have tremendous content but aren't well written. Gap Selling is the best of both.
  
  I highly recommend that you read this book. If you're like me and are in sales leadership, buy a copy of it for your team as a New Year's Gift. They'll love you for it.
• I can't say enough about this book and how ever-present it is in my mind as I go about my daily routine and the immediate impact it's had in my meetings. Questions are better. Conversations are richer. Insights are deeper. Problems are revealed. Value is higher. Much higher. Further, it places a new perspective on sales and actually clarified for me WHY I love sales It's because I'm solving problems. Keenan teaches, our JOB is solving problems and if we can't diagnose our prospects' & customers' challenges, there is NO SALE. I have the hardcover (signed by the Red Plaid Man himself!) and the audio book. I've listened once and am going to listen again (and again), this time with the hardcover by my side, so I can mark it up and leverage the materials (PIC, etc.) provided. With each listen and read, new approaches will be revealed and it will be woven even more tightly into my process.
  
  Simply put If you're in the business of SOLVING PROBLEMS (sales) - and who isn't - you need to grab this book NOW.

• It is a must to first know your market and customers to then be able to position your solution for customer outcomes and know the value of the outcome based upon the pain being experienced by your prospects. Marketers, read the book, refresh your focus, target customer definitions and messaging to your customers and support your sellers.
  
  Content is so important to sales and marketing and being consistent with the messaging regardless of channel is critical. Keenan describes selling to the Gap between desired outcome and current state. The bigger the gap, the bigger the pain and the bigger the need to fill that gap.
  
  This is a great read for both sales and marketing to drive the revenue engine. Marketing it is our job to fuel that engine, this is a good read to get on the same page with your sellers.

The world has become increasingly networked and unpredictable. Decision makers at all levels are required to manage the consequences of complexity every day. They must deal with problems that arise unexpectedly, generate uncertainty, are characterised by interconnectivity, and spread across traditional boundaries. Simple solutions to complex problems are usually inadequate and risk exacerbating the original issues.

Leaders of international bodies such as the UN, OECD, UNESCO and WHO — and of major business, public sector, charitable, and professional organizations — have all declared that systems thinking is an essential leadership skill for managing the complexity of the economic, social and environmental issues that confront decision makers. Systems thinking must be implemented more generally, and on a wider scale, to address these issues.

An evaluation of different systems methodologies suggests that they concentrate on different aspects of complexity. To be in the best position to deal with complexity, decision makers must understand the strengths and weaknesses of the various approaches and learn how to employ them in combination. This is called critical systems thinking. Making use of over 25 case studies, the book offers an account of the development of systems thinking and of major efforts to apply the approach in real-world interventions. Further, it encourages the widespread use of critical systems practice as a means of ensuring responsible leadership in a complex world.

"As a long time student and teacher of systems thinking I welcome the addition of this book to the Amazon collection. As far as I can tell there is no other book that includes all the major developments in systems thinking over the last fifty years. This lack of a source book has in part meant that systems thinking has taken a back seat in management and business development in Europe.

The book starts by clarifying what the systems language means. As this a language that has been hijacked by colloquialism this section is an excellent primer for those wanting to understand the theoretical and philosophical roots of systems. This is followed by a look at applying systems thinking and in particular the creative nature of developments over the last couple of decades. This is an important aspect to be covered as many assume systems must be technical and rigid.

The bulk of the middle part of the book reviews the major developments in approaches, including Soft Systems Methodology, Complexity Theory and Systems Dynamics. These are clearly labelled, with background history, examples of application and clear illustrations. The value of each approach is explicitly stated in terms of management helping the reader to grasp which method might be most appropriate to their situation.

The final section helps the reader to decide how to maximise the benefit of the different holistic approaches. It draws them together using critical thinking approaches developed by the author and others. Examples of application are given although elements come across as a little too philosophical for the average manager."

• While writing Service Thinking The Seven Principles To Discover Innovative Opportunities (http//www./Service-Thinking-Hunter-Hastings) Jeff Saperstein and I researched a number of books to guide the application of systems thinking to management challenges. I discovered this one after going to publication on Service Thinking, so it's not referenced. It provides an excellent overview of all the systems thinking genres, their history, pluses and minuses, and where and how to apply them. It provides a great starting point for further inquiry, and I recommend it.
• Great outlines for a complex project overview of the whole.
• This book is prescribed for a programme I am currently doing with the Unversity fo Stellenbosch and I found it so relevant to managers even if the are not studying because our challenges revolve around systems
• This book offer a very good overview about system thinking and add a lot of good examples and reflections. I reallly recommend
• Not the easiest read, but if it's thinking you want, it's thinking you're gonna do.

• My entire life I have either owned or worked with all of the domesticated animals Gavin writes about. I never stopped to think about the transformation from wild to mild. I assumed like everyone else, they were domesticated intentionally but Gavin delves into the process of leaving the wild in ways I never considered.
  
  Each section deals not only with a detailed explanation of why animals chose to align themselves with man but goes deeply into the complicated ramifications of that partnership. What did the animals give up and what did they gain by coming to the fire (Gavin’s words, not mine)?
  Gavin writes with authority and clarity of a well-researched subject he has first-hand knowledge of. His experience as a working cowboy, horseman and dog trainer flows into his writing and no matter how technical the topic, he delivers an interesting and fascinating read.
  I particularly enjoyed his subtle humor that keeps the reader engaged on every level. His section on dogs is categorized as going from wolf to woof.
  
  Most of us have been exposed to household pets but few ever learned how a particular breed came to be and it’s not what you imagine. His in depth research of intentional breeding practices across the globe shines a light on the successes and failures of cross breeding and selective breeding in a way I never considered.
  
  There is so much more to this book than anecdotes about domesticated animals. I am amazed at the depth Gavin went to in order to document the Unnatural History of Dogs, Cats, Cows and Horses.
• From every Cat, Dog, Horse and Cow who cannot speak, I would like to extend a heartfelt THANKS to Gavin! He has brought to light all the many ways humans have MESSED US UP, all for profit while completely ignoring our best interests. This is an amazing book for anybody who cares about animals.

• Insanely boring. In my mind, I call this book "Hogs, Dogs, and Cows." I mean, seriously, who cares? This is the type of writer who will never write about anything important.
• Author Gavin Ehringer was a long-time contributor to stock horse-centric publications like Western Horseman, so it’s likely he won’t win any popularity contests for calling out the American Quarter Horse industry and competitive ranching disciplines (among others) for such gross injustices to modern equine domestication as flooding gene pools with “popular sire” effects and ravaging young horse potential before it can reach maturity through the allure of futurity systems. Nope, he’s not going to win friends. But his new book, ‘Leaving the Wild,’ published by Pegasus Books, Ltd., is nonetheless correct in calling out the domestication of horses, as well as cats, dogs and cattle, as all too often “unnatural.” As well as selfish and short-sighted. If you enjoyed ‘The Horse The Epic History of Our Noble Companion’ by Wendy Williams, who calls Ehringer’s effort a “powerful entreaty to animal lovers,” then ‘Leaving the Wild’ will also resonate with you. Like Williams, he weaves his own autobiographical accounts into his chapters so that we more clearly understand that these are not the judgments of a detached observer but the heartfelt connecting of the dots by one of our own tribe. ‘Leaving the Wild’ is an intelligent investment to the library of anyone who shares their life with -- and thus shoulders the responsibility for – the four-legged souls whose ancestors chose to accept and trust our domestication and who become the first to pay the high price for our mistakes.
