Flirting with the Frenemy Bro Code Book 1 edition by Pippa Grant Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

  • FUN. That’s what this book is. It's just so darn much fun! Everything about it, all the way through it is fun. It’s also hilarious, zany, outrageous, quirky, steamy, evocative, poignant and sweet. With an adorable kid, a delightfully unique cast of secondary characters, an ex who doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of “ex,” a foul-mouthed parrot, pirates and treasure hunts, dueling town festivals, farm animals run amok, and a phenomenal theme wedding, this book has something for every reader.

As only Grant can, she sets the scene with a quirky destination wedding that brings two frenemies with an awkward history back together, while giving us two popular tropes of brother's best friend and single dad. Ellie and Wyatt's last encounter involved broken hearts, alcohol and lost clothing, resulting in a bad accident, feelings of inadequacy and piles of guilt. Now, Ellie is staying at one of her brother's many homes, this one in the delightfully wacky town of Shipwreck, to be part of her best friend's wedding festivities. Too bad her brother offered the same house to his best friend, Wyatt, and his son, Tucker, knowing Ellie would be there.

I adore everything about these characters! Both Ellie and Wyatt are complex, eternally endearing, and just a bit broken. As they set aside their childhood bickering and really get to know each other, the vulnerabilities that are slowly revealed make it impossible not to love them and be fully invested in them finally getting their forever together. Little Tucker, as well as Beck, whose not a kid but often acts like one, provide some delightful comedy as well as surprising insight that provoke the reader's contemplation. For those who don’t like kids in romance, I suspect you just haven’t met a kid like Tucker. His character is done extremely well -- adorable, smart, precocious and no verbal filter, providing some of the best moments in the book.

Barring alien abduction, demonic possession or a complete psychotic break, Pippa will always be a 1-click author for me. Oh, who am I kidding? No force on earth can keep me from reading her books. I don’t give my book money away, willy nilly, but Grant has earned herself a top spot in my must-read authors. With outrageous humor that makes reading her books in public impossible without garnering strange looks, pointing and whispering, and her ability to pack an emotional punch and embed her characters deep in my heart, Grant always leave me supremely satisfied while still wanting more from her. She strikes the perfect balance of outrageous, madcap hilarity, heartfelt emotion and delicious sensuality, making me fall for every new character I meet. Whatever circumstances you find yourself in, whether your day is horrendous or fantastic, Grant's writing will make your life even better. I dare you to read Ellie and Wyatt’s story without laughing out loud, feeling your heartstrings being tugged, and having that satisfying happy sigh at the end. Go ahead and hit the 1-Click. I promise you won’t regret it.

  • Pippa Grant's writing style just gets better and better.
She knows how to pull you in and make you feel like you are apart of the story.
The characters become so real they are Family.
Wyatt, is a military dad who came from a background, where in the beginning his family life wasn't the best.
When his grandma started to care for him, she introduced him to the Ryder family and they became like a second family to him.
Beck, became his best friend and his sister Ellie, became the little sister to torment.
He ends up getting a girl pregnant and does the right thing by marrying her, but she just doesn't want the military life and divorced him moving his son far away.
Now, he only see him spareringly, because the Air Force will not relieve him of his duties or transfer him closer to his son.

Ellie, has had a hate love hate relationship with Wyatt, ever since he was peaking around his grandma's leg.
All she wanted was to be one of the boys and she worked hard, to out do them in everything they did.
Wyatt, challenged her to become better by taunting her even when she was perfect.
She only became stronger, faster, smarter with each challenge.
When her boyfriend dumps her on Christmas Eve, she finds solance in his arms.
When Wyatt over thinks it and calls it a mistake, because her family is the closest thing to a family he has, she runs and ends up in a car accident.

Forward six months later and they ended up in her bothers house together along with his son.
She's there for her best friends wedding.
She needs a date, because her friend is marrying the brother of her ex, who just happens to be the best man.
She had it all planned out, but Wyatt, who is there for the week to take his son to the pirates festival, has other plans.
He now must to pretend to be the boyfriend.

When sparks fly, everyone around them see what's been coming for a long time and are so happy for them.
The problem is they can't see it for themselves.

This is a fun story with crazey a parrot, a pirate themed wedding, and lots of heat.

Pippa Grant, is a one-click author for me.
Another great series, on the way for this family.
  • 4.5 Stars. I usually give Pippa Grants' books 5 plus stars but this book was lacking in a couple of areas for me. There was a cliffhanger, a HFN ending and the book felt like it was not in sequence. Bro Code is a disbanded boy band that Wyatt was not a member of but a friend of the band members and since frequent references were made about the band perhaps their stories should have came first. Overall Ellie and Wyatt's romance was a cute, steamy and very funny read but since I am not a fan of cliffhangers I may wait until the end of the series to continue reading. I read a lot of books and do not always remember how previous books in a series ended without going back and rereading the ending which I do not like or have the time to do. I am not sure if this book can be considered a standalone.
